What comes next #FlyingFA
Now that the bare bones of the #FlyingFA website is up and running, here is what’s on my mind and what I look to do soon:
Create a video on the purchasing of an aircraft in South Africa. This will be the story of my purchase of ZS-DED a Piper Cherokee 235 in mid 2022. This video should be finished and posted in September 2023.
At the time of writing this blog, I’ve booked ZS-DED for a required aviation upgrade. It all started with my transponder giving issues and with the upcoming ADSB requirement for South Africa, I decided to go with a new Garmin GTX 375 setup that will integrate with my Aera 660, a new COMM, ELT and JPI EDM 830. I’m looking forward to telling the story of my path to this upgrade. To me there is a ton of safety considerations and impact with this upgrade.
I plan to do my night rating in September 2023. The only challenge will likely be the availability of my aircraft as it is due to go for the avionics upgrade late August.
My current list of future blog posts or video ideas to create in addition to above:
What it takes and costs to get your PPL license in South Africa.
The safety aspect of general aviation in Johannesburg / busy airspace with lots of flying schools and the impact of technology and upcoming legislation (like ADS-B).
My preferred EFB (electronic flight bag) application - I’ve used Air Nav Pro and Skydemon for many years and also tried Foreflight and others for South Africa.
What I use to plan a flight in South Africa. Including the impact of overnight stays and flying in the bush.
What’s in my flight bag?
Flying with children and family on long cross country flights.
Aerodrome reviews of the ones I’ve flown to where others can benefit from aggregation of content and experience.
I’d love to hear from you especially on what you’d like me to prioritise. Please share your thoughts!
