How my journey began
Hi, I’m Danie Gordon, a private pilot based out of Johannesburg, South Africa.
I remember being in love with flying from a young age. Even today I find aviation fascinating by how it brings together multiple disciplines across physics, performance, human factors, navigation, flight planning, weather and air traffic control. Moreover it is the practicality of flying that captures my imagination as a means to see every corner of our country and neighboring African countries.
I started flying in January 2019 and I have ratings on the Cessna 172, Cessna 182, Piper P28R, and Piper P28B. I completed my PPL at Grand Central Airport, and I am currently based out of Rand Airport. In 2024 I completed by night rating and I’m working on my instrument rating.
I have a full time career in IT, which is my other big passion! I'm really grateful to be able to live out my aviation pursuit as a result, but it does mean that I mostly only get to fly over weekends. I look forward to sharing my adventures and learning from others like you. I’m a firm believer that we have something to learn from everyone, irrespective of their background, age and experience. I’m passionate about our beautiful country and I’m available to use my many years of public speaking to speak about aviation.
In 2022 I purchased a 1974 Piper Cherokee Pathfinder, ZS-DED, and one of the first things I did was to complete a full interior and exterior refurbishment. See the video I made on this transformation as well as a personal story about remembering loved ones.
I looking forward to hearing from all of you about which content you would like to see or read about. Keep an eye on the blogs section as my mission takes shape. Thank you for visiting FlyingFA and I look forward to seeing you in the African skies.
